Businesses in the U.A.E are at a crossroads. Consumers believe they are more sustainable than the brands that serve them. Behind technology, fashion is perceived to have the highest sustainability.[1]
The truth is far from this perception bias. Fashion generates tons of scrap, almost 90% of which goes into landfills. Estimates show the industry is responsible for ~10% of global carbon emissions; with only ~12-15% of clothing being recycled. In the U.A.E, this means 210,000 tonnes of discarded materials annually, 90% of which end up in landfills.[2]
Planet Tomorrow aims for a 1% reduction by creating impact across 1000 companies by 2030, to repurpose scrap, sew it into useful items, & gift it to the deserving, thereby saving these ‘bits’ from reaching landfills.
